Lucuma (loo-coo-ma) fruit traditionally known as “Gold of the Incas” can be identified by its green skin, bright yellow-orange flesh and large seed, similar to an avocado. It is native to the Andean regions of South America where it has been used for thousands of years and is a sacred food item. Carvings of the fruit have even been discovered on ceramics excavated from ancient burial sites located along the coast of Peru.
